{"id":5502,"date":"2022-01-26T22:22:17","date_gmt":"2022-01-26T21:22:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?p=5502"},"modified":"2022-01-26T22:22:17","modified_gmt":"2022-01-26T21:22:17","slug":"plasma-in-a-week-37","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?p=5502","title":{"rendered":"Plasma-in-a-week 3\/7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back again and tonight has been a good night for the plasma..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5504\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5504\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5504\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_181441.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a bunch of hours by the mill this is finally the last part that needs to be spat out before our building can commence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5505\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5505\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5505\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_185404.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This small collection of parts seems to be all that&#8217;s needed in order to make the XYZ gantry for the CNC plasma cutter.. And when they&#8217;re all cut out I just could not resist the urge to do some assembly..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5506\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5506\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5506\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_185544.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First of all the torch holder goes together with two screws. I&#8217;ve cheated and already mounted the linear bearings and the screws to hold them in place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5507\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5507\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5507\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_185653.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then the Z-axis goes together by inserting the 104mm steel rods into the bottom bracket..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5508\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5508\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5508\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_185733.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>.. then the torch holder and lifter is slided onto the steel bars and finally the top bracket is mounted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5509\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5509\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5509\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_185929.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A 100mm long 2040 aluminium profile with threaded ends holds the assembly together. I&#8217;ll need to go back and add the contraption that is to hold the belt on the lifter but we&#8217;ll let that be for now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5510\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5510\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5510\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_190100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The idler pulley holder is added to the assembly..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5511\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5511\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5511\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_190247.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>.. and the Z stepper mount is attached.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5512\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5512\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5512\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_190637.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After adding the backplate with the V-slot wheels the Z assembly is complete. This is the most complex part of the build, the rest is quite straightforward..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5513\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5513\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5513\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_191016.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>V-slot wheel brackets are added to the ends of the X axis profile. I&#8217;m using 1000mm long profiles so the cutter will span 1mx1m and have slightly less work area than that.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5514\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5514\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5514\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_191155.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a>The mounting bracket for the X stepper motor is mounted..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5515\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5515\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5515\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_191213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>.. and the Z assembly is slided on to the X axis. Since the upper v-slot wheel is adjustable with an excentric nut the Z-axis can come off and be remounted any time but for now it was easier to just roll it on there before mounting the X idler holder..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5516\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5516\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5516\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_191517.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/>..\u00a0<\/a>which is the last part we need to complete the X axis. I&#8217;m not going to use limit switches for homing, I&#8217;ll probably just manually zero the X and Y axis where I want the work area to be like I do on the mill..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5517\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5517\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5517\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_193502.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a>The Y axis stepper motor mounts are attached to 1000mm long 2040 extrusions..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5518\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5518\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5518\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_193806.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/>..\u00a0<\/a>and the opposing idler mounts are attached&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/?attachment_id=5519\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5519\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5519\" src=\"http:\/\/www.runstenracing.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/20220126_194619.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a>.. and this is the current state. I&#8217;ve mounted the Y axis brace holders in the corners of the motion rig but have yet to thread the ends of two more 1000mm extrusions.. Unfortunately I only have one at home so I&#8217;ll have to figure something out..
